There’s a memorial on the island near to the shipwreck site, so we set off in the dinghy to find it before we got battered by the next blast of wind. On the way north, we passed the active pearl farm and were surprised to Raroia is now world-famous, to a lesser degree than Bora-Bora, but through and thanks to her nickname of “the Kon-Tiki island”, she boasts to see more than a hundred sailing boats from all over the earth, mainly from Europe and America.
